As much as I love style, being flamboyant, styling up pieces and getting dolled up for special event - or just a trip to tesco, there are days where I just want to wear my basics. My uniform. Mixing and matching my different stapleS which are very much still very easy going and reliable.
I wanted to share my favourite staples with you, the pieces that never let me down, will always be on my reserve bench and to the pieces that most likely be sticking around for the longest.
My all time favourite and ‘go to’ Jean is the Jamie Jean from Topshop. They are high waist - which is an essential and they have just enough stretch that I don’t feel super restricted, I find if you have chunky thighs, movement in jeans is limited, but Jamie doesn’t let me down. Lastly, they come in so many different colours and designs, so there’s always something for if you want to mix things up. I personally mainly stick with black, because its easy, but there are variations, such as ripped knees, corset tie waste and even a stone washed look.
Most of the time, along with my black jeans, I like to wear a plain white tee, keeping it monochrome, again, keeping it easy and it gives a little more scope to add in pops of colour, for example a bright red lip, matching colourful earrings and a bag.
I think that the simple black and white combo will forever just look effortlessly cool no matter.
I’m also a big fan of oversized band or slogan tees, tying them up in a knot to give some shape. Again, you really can’t go wrong with a band tee or something sassy across your chest. It gives personality.
I live and die in converse. There’s something about them that I can’t get enough off. They’re iconic, a classic and not to mention really super comfy. Nostalgic and reminiscent of the times when I was a teenager when I was first getting into music and bands. Myself and all my friends would wear our converse until they were tattered. I wear them to pay hommage to those days. These days
If I could marry a piece of clothing, I would have to be my Allsaints leather jacket, my absolute gem, god send, uniform piece. It was a real treat upon purchasing it in the first place, but the quality and fit is incredible, the jackets really do mould themselves to your shape, even when advised to go a touch smaller to allow this. I’ve always been a leather jacket gal, I’ve always been inspired by rock n roll and so they’ve always been number one to tick off my list. I love that they’re great for the everyday rocking gal that you are, but they also are perfect for adding edge to evening or formal wear. I would say that they’re kinda arrogant, but lets blame all the rock icons for that.
Lastly, to accessorise! My western belt, this comes with me everywhere, just a plain leather belt but with a silver western detail, great for pinching in and creating attention to my waist, adding some flattering shape and curve. There’s also my sunglasses, current favourite is my Quay cat eye, just a great all rounder, I love that shape and size.
Im currently obsess over baker boy hats, a trend that I didn’t think i’d catch onto because i’m so used to being a western or a fedora kinda hat gal, but I blame Megan Ellaby for my new obsession. Just great to chuck on if you’re in need of just that little something extra, or you’re having a bad hair day!
So there we have it, the staples!
