More so than anything else, except possibly restaurants, I find the suggestions and sharing of music pretty important in my day to day life. It’s safe to say that music plays a huge part in our lives, with out sounding too cliche (music is my liiiife) and being very much into music because of the whole band thing, I felt it was about time that I shared some of my current favourites to this online journal of mine. My music taste is rather extensively varied, I’d say my roots, or where I feel at home is within the rock n roll spectrum, however very much being my ‘at home’ genre I have flown the nest to explore new places, and in this case genres. So here are my current music favourites:
Tame Impala x Haim – The remix of ‘Cause I’m a Man’ from Tame Impalas new album ‘Currents’ has got me obsessed. I’m always a little protective over artists I love, when their tracks are being covered, however I feel that this remix is less than a cover and more of well, a remix. With the backing and instrumental still being close to the original, apart from a slight variation of the percussion, what sets it back to being individual is the euphoric and heavenly vocals from Haim. The chorus is undeniably addictive and always has me coming back for more.
Grimes – The underground experimental electronica queen wows me again with ‘Art Angels’ . Delightfully pop, however still the right amount of Grimes, her music always has that unusual twist on it. My favourite tracks of the Album include; California, Flesh Without Blood and Kill V. Maim.
Alvvays – Alvvays their album from 2014 is one that I just cannot get bored of. I listen to it every time, nearly every day in its entirety. Highly influential to my own music, Alvvays are a indie, dreamy pop band from Canada and their music is very bright, summery, uplifting and dreamy. Gorgeous guitar accents and riffs, listening to them is like watching a movie over and over and still noticing new things. I love music that you can picture yourself listening to driving on a hot day. It feels hopeful.
Aerosmith – My all time favourite band has had the dust blown off it that’s been accumulating whilst I put it to the side for a while. My love for them will always be there, but my need for them hasn’t for a while. But for my birthday, Roz got my a Aerosmith Live vinyl and all the nostalgia came flooding back, and of course I played the vinyl one Friday night and loved every second and sang every word. Since then I’ve been sneaking the odd Aerosmith track into my daily routine, it makes me happy.
Love L.U.V – Quite an unheard of band, but Love L.U.V was first introduced to me by Conor because he thought the singer sounded a bit like me. That’s not saying I only listen because I want to listen to myself, again, I just like listening to music that inspires me and the sound that I feel could incorporate into my own song writing. Love L.U.V have a 50s feel, quite simple song structures but very easy listening. Distortion of every level give their ‘Garage Stomp’ that they claim to be. This band is totally fun and a good listen!
Thanks for reading, hope you like my suggestions! Always Love to hear yours too, so don’t be shy and comment!
